Australia
South Australia. British Colony - Victoria gold Adelaide Pound 1852 MS62 NGC, KM2, Fr-3. Type II reverse. An attractive example of this extremely coveted, early Australian gold type, with full details and flashy mint bloom atop moderately marked surfaces. Despite the relatively high mintage of 25,000 for this issue, the surviving population is actually quite small, as the intrinsic value exceeded the face value shortly after their minting, which resulted is wide-spread melting. This coin, one of those survivors, is one of the few Mint State examples we have seen. Krause catalog price(s) for this item: $11000 in VF, $26500 in EF, $40000 in UNC.
Estimate: 25000-35000 USD
