Australia
Victoria gold "St. George" Sovereign 1882-M MS66 NGC, Melbourne mint, KM7, S-3857B. A highly anomalous coin -- of the over 10,000 Victoria Australian sovereigns to have been graded by NGC and PCGS to date, this is one of only four examples of all dates graded MS66; two of those happen to be the Young Head/St. George type, while two are the later Jubilee Head/St. George issue. Therefore, as one might expect from a coin at this elusive premium Gem level, the surfaces appear truly immaculate, with a sharply defined strike, few marks of any kind and beaming luster that illuminates the surfaces. For comparison's sake, we note the sale of a PCGS MS66 Jubilee Head coin that realized $22,325 in our January 2013 auction. We expect this piece, of the earlier and more popular Young Head type, to receive just as much, if not more bidder interest.
Estimate: 12000-14000 USD
