Ferdinand III 2 Taler 1641/39 MS62 NGC Graz mint, KM876.1, Dav-A3186. Beautifully original toning with relatively high relief for a coin produced from roller dies. An interesting overdate, with a clear "39" ghost. As best we can tell, there have been just three examples of this type sold in the last decade. Of those, only one could possibly come close to the quality of the current specimen. That one, sold by the Czech auction house Aurea Numismatika in December 2013, while likely technically mint state, had a fairly significant area of striking weakness, thus lacking the same sort of eye appeal as the current coin. The Austrian double taler on offer here is very possibly the finest example of this type that one will encounter on the market for quite some time, and therefore this is an opportunity not to be missed.
Estimate: 8000-10000 USD
