Joao V gold 10000 Reis 1724-M AU58 NGC, Vila Rica mint, KM116 ("rare"), Russo-244. The undisputed key issue for this type, and a classic rarity as a result, with a strike that reaches impressive fullness, while full luster creates a dazzling effect in the fields. Visually compelling color only adds to the eye-appeal. Toned over both sides, reddish-orange blushes highlight the devices, with concentrations of color moving ever-so-slightly into the fields. Taking all into account, very likely the most attractive example of this date that we have had the pleasure to offer, with other elite examples in similar grade either lacking the beautiful tone seen on the present piece, or having some sort of as-made planchet imperfection that is more fate than fault. For the patient collector waiting for the "right" example to come along, we fully anticipate that the present coin will end that wait.
