Pedro II gold 10000 (16000) Reis 1847 MS63 PCGS, Rio de Janeiro mint, KM457, Russo-627. Choice Uncirculated with sparkling full mint bloom that is most-unusual for this very scarce issue. The first of two dates for this type, struck under the decree that revalued the issue to 16,000 Reis from 10,000 Reis. We note a specimen graded AU53 by NGC, far from this "finest graded" example in terms of quality, hammered at $2,600 in our 1/2014 signature Sale (lot 23107).
