Central American Republic gold 8 Escudos 1833 CR-F MS61 NGC, San Jose mint, KM17. Choice for the assigned grade, with highly lustrous surfaces, beautiful red-orange tone inside the sun's rays and only mild surface abrasions preventing a higher certification. The strike, rather important to the eye-appeal of this issue, makes a most favorable impression, with a fully detailed sunface on the obverse and essentially entirely struck tree leaves on the reverse. A better date of this type, and one of the world's most popular and collectible gold issues; always sought in any grade and very rare and coveted in this Mint State designation. The cataloguer notes an AU50 NGC certified coin of this same date selling in last year's Heritage's ANA Signature Sale (Heritage 8/2014, lot 23196) for a hammer price of $28,000. This handsomely preserved coin should fetch a healthy sum over that price.
Estimate: 30000-40000 USD
