Crete
Prince George Specimen 5 Drachmai 1901 SP65 NGC, Paris mint, KM9. Deeply toned over on both sides in a full palette of rainbow colors, with mostly red and orange hue in the fields, and the infusion of greens and blues around most of the raised devices. After careful study is given to the surfaces, few marks are observed, especially for this typically poorly handled issue, and one sees all the qualities that make this presentation strike special. Reflective gleam in the fields, the result carefully prepared dies is noted, while the design shows unparalleled completeness, the central detail being clear and crisp and the peripheral lettering, dentils and rims rising confidently from the flat fields. The finest preserved example known in any form, and almost certainly unique as a specimen, likely having been produced for a dignitary, the mintmaster himself or as a mint sample. A logical "coin to target" for not only the advanced collector of Crete, but also for the specialist in unequalled world crowns.

Estimate: 50000-60000 USD
