Brunswick-Luneburg-Celle. Christian Ludwig 2 Taler 1662-LW AU58 NGC, KM252.3, Dav-LS174. "2" stamped to the left of the date. A rare and imposing piece. With wholly natural surfaces and very faint luster, this piece has superb eye appeal. While Brunswick double talers aren't necessarily rare as far as multiple talers go, they are a highly collectible series and this is one of the finest examples of the type that we have seen. The town scene on the obverse is quite elaborately engraved, with just a hint of wear here and there preventing it from achieving Mint State stature. Overall a charming piece with much better eye appeal than the singular grade assigned to it by NGC would suggest. Krause catalog price(s) for this item: $1350 in VF, $2150 in EF.
Estimate: 4000-5000 USD
