Öttingen-Öttingen. Ludwig Eberhard Taler 1624 MS65 NGC, KM20, Dav-7136. An exceptional example of this coinage from the Protestant branch of the Öttingen counts. This certainly ranks among the finest known examples of this type; though very few have been seen by the Third-Party Grading services. The two graded examples that have been on the market in recent years (one of which was from the esteemed Eric P. Newman Collection) were both graded MS61, a full four points lower than the current piece. With a particularly bold dog's head on the obverse, representing the family arms, this is clearly a piece that has seen very little handling in the last 400 years. Krause catalog price(s) for this item: $350 in VF, $700 in EF.

Estimate: 5000-6000 USD
