Wurzburg. Johann Gottfried II Taler 1693-IMW MS65 NGC, KM205, Dav-5993. Beautiful old cabinet toning with underlying blue iridescence. A strong strike on a broad flan. The current world record for a coin of this particular Davenport number is an example sold by Sincona in May, 2013 for 3,500 CHF hammer ($3,643 at the time) that they graded as Near FDC. If that coin was nearly FDC, then the present coin can almost definitely be described as simply FDC; for a taler that is over 300 years old, it is hard to imagine what else one could want that this coin lacks. An all around wonderful and artistic example. Krause catalog price(s) for this item: $450 in VF, $950 in EF, $2250 in UNC.
