Wurzburg. Adam Friedrich Taler 1766-MP MS62 NGC, KM396, Dav-2900. A rare type, and as best we can tell this is the first time an example has been offered for sale outside of Europe in at least a decade. Wonderfully preserved, with essentially no wear whatsoever and the only thing preventing it from achieving a higher numerical grade being a few scattered hairlines in the fields. Nearly blast white surfaces that almost produce a prooflike cameo effect with the devices. Conveniently, the highest price ever paid for an example of this Davenport number was sold by Künker just a few months ago, in June, 2015 for a hammer price of 4,600 EUR ($5,243). That was a very nice example that they graded Nearly Mint State, though it had some fairly distracting mottled toning, rather than the clean and appealing surfaces that this specimen has. We wait expectantly to see if this piece can best the record set so recently. Krause catalog price(s) for this item: $2000 in VF, $3600 in EF, $7000 in UNC.

Estimate: 8000-10000 USD
