Great Britain
George II gold 5 Guineas 1738 MS62 NGC, Royal mint, KM571.1, S-3663A. A truly imposing example of 18th century British numismatics. From our research, we have been able to locate a mere four other examples that have sold publicly in the last decade, with the current specimen very possibly being the finest of them. NGC and PCGS have graded a combined 5 examples of the 1738 5 guinea, with the grades as follows:- VF35 (1 NGC)- AU50 (1 PCGS)- AU58 (2 NGC)- MS62 (1 NGC, the present coin)Though there are plenty of other examples in existence that have not been graded, the piece offered here almost certainly ranks among the finest known. With only a few light scattered marks, this coin possesses some residual striking luster and a bold obverse portrait. A real delight in hand.

Estimate: 50000-60000 USD
