Victoria gold Proof Pattern 2 Florin 1868 PR67 NGC, Royal mint, KM-PN115, WR-373 (R5). Straight grained edge, struck en medaille. A truly and all around astonishing piece, this is almost certainly the finest known example of this rare type. We have been fortunate enough to have handled two other pieces in recent years. The first was a PCGS PR64 Cameo that was sold in January, 2014 in a group lot with its sister coin, WR-372 (an example of which we also happen to have in this auction; see previous lot). The other example of WR-372 that we have sold was in our August, 2014 sale and was graded by NGC as PR64. The present specimen, however, rises above the others. It is quite remarkable for a coin to be as well preserved as this one. With subtle frosting on the devices and exceptional reflectivity in the fields, this coin is a true testament to 19th century British numismatics.

Estimate: 20000-25000 USD
