British India. East India Company - William IV gold Proof Restrike Mohur 1835-(B) PR63 NGC, Bombay mint, KM451.1. S&W-1.16. Broadly sought by Indian gold collectors for its alluring lion and palm motif on the reverse, this variety was made without initials on the neck truncation of William IV. On the present piece, as is customary of the restrike issues, the mirrored fields blend seamlessly with raised fields and wispy hairlines, quite possibly the result of handling at the mint, prevents a finer technical grade. Still, a very bright and eye-appealing coin; finer than many we have seen.
