British India. East India Company - Victoria gold Mohur 1841.(-C) MS61 NGC, Calcutta mint, KM461.2. Prid-18, S&W-2.1. Type A/SG. Without engraver's initials. Crosslet 4. The obverse of this selection is incredibly sharp, featuring the impeccably-struck and well-styled portrait of Victoria within a continuous legend. Likewise, the reverse boasts an illustrative motif, depicting a prowling lion with palm tree behind. Some porosity is noted, most likely from rusty dies; however, the surfaces exhibit a pleasing, buttery-gold color accented by ample mint bloom. A scarce issue at any level of Mint-State, highly-collectible as such.
