Nasir al-Din Shah Pattern Specimen 5000 Dinars AH1297 (1879-80) SP64 PCGS, Brussels mint, KM-Pn18. Plain edge. A magnificent example of this very rare and highly-sought presentation-quality pattern crown of Nasir al-Din Shah. Fully radiant, the eye-appeal remains without the influence of tone, entirely white on both sides, with considerable frost on the raised design that creates dramatic cameo-like features between the motifs and reflective fields. Neither side holds any marks of visual significance, and in that respect, this coin must be considered a full Gem. The strike shows impressive strength in the centers, and especially on the lion and sunface, with a touch of incompleteness in the wreath above the ٩٧ in the date being the only possible impediment to 65 grade. Struck from the same dies as the fully toned example we sold in our August 2014 auction for $23,500, and while NGC labeled that piece a Proof and PCGS gave this one a Specimen designation, they are without question of the same striking quality. As such, we anticipate an equally strong demand, with the present example certain to garner even more attention from the collector who prefers white coins to those with tone.
