Nasir al-Din Shah gold 10 Toman AH1293 (1876) AU Details (Mount Removed, Rim Repaired) NGC, KM-Unl, Fr-Unl. An immense gold issue featuring the highly-popular lion and sun motif, struck under the reign of Nasir al-Din Shah during the Qajar Dynasty. Readily apparent are the bold devices--particularly the obverse sun image and surrounding wreath design--with minor friction evident only among the highest points and light handling that barely requires mention. While the surfaces exude luminescent golden color that enshrouds each stylistic motif in a warm glow, the equally engaging reverse presents an inscription done in calligraphy, an art form the Persians are well-associated with. Despite the details designation, evidence of a mount-removal and subsequent rim repair are minimal, and as such do little to alter the allure of this selection. At present time, this issue is unlisted in the major reference catalogs, and with only a handful of auction records available in the last several years, the scarcity of this type is undeniable. An altogether wonderful example of this rare and beautiful type.

Estimate: 15000-20000 USD
