Iran
Nasir al-Din Shah gold 25 Toman 1301-B (1883) UNC, 55mm. 71.24gm. A highly engaging modern restrike by the National bank of Iran (Bank Melli Iran) during the 1960s using original dies from earlier circulating silver and gold coins. This piece in particular is a mule of sorts, featuring an obverse that was struck with the die from the silver Toman of 1313 which commemorates Nasir al-Din Shah's 50th Anniversary of reign and a reverse struck with the die of the gold 25 Toman of 1301. While earlier restrikes do exist, this is clearly a modern striking as the Shah's eyes, details on his coat, and script within the legends have been crudely re-worked. Other than the usual flatness to the Shah's nose, the uncirculated detail of this piece is overwhelming, with only light handling in the way of surface hairlines and a small rim bruise worth noting. An altogether engaging issue with multi-faceted layers of interest, perfect for the collectors of Iranian coins and unusual material alike.

Estimate: 15000-20000 USD
