Sardinia. Vittorio Amedeo II gold Doppia 1678 MS63 NGC, KM296, Fr-1090. A lustrous example of this rare type depicting the jugate half-length busts of Vittorio Amedeo II and his mother. While apparently struck from a somewhat worn obverse die, and with a few scattered die polishing lines, these pre-striking issues cannot be counted against this coin, which is truly Choice Mint State. A darker toning spot on the reverse shield is noted as a ready means of identification. Overall a lovely example of the type and one of the finest that one could hope to find.Ex.
