Italy
Venice. Republic, Francesco Loredam Tallero 1756 MS66+ NGC, KM625, Dav-1552. Lustrous, beautiful toned, immaculately preserved- an all-around stunning specimen. The obverse displays the womanly representation of the Republic, while the reverse shows a very artistic depiction of the Lion of St. Mark. Italian talleros are generally not as common as their German or Austrian counterparts, and the auction representation of this type over the last twelve years attests to that; there have been just a dozen other examples sold publicly in that time. The only example sold in recent years that even comes close to this one was one auctioned by Künker in March, 2013. That coin was graded by them as "vorzügliches" (Extremely Fine). Judging from the photographs, it had a number of surface abrasions and some wear fairly even wear; it likely would have been graded as AU or low MS on the Sheldon scale. Still, though, that piece managed to hammer at 6,000 Euros, or $7,808 at the time. While it was nice, the present specimen is on an entirely different level. When you have what is very likely the finest known of a rare and highly collectible, you expect all previous records to be completely eclipsed. There is really nothing negative one could say about the coin on offer here; this is a piece worthy of the most discriminating coin cabinets.

Estimate: 25000-30000 USD
