Venice. Alvise Mocenigo IV Tallero 1769 MS66 NGC, KM690 (cover plate image), Dav-1563. Amazing prooflike surfaces with an exceptional strike and unbelievable tone. It is understood that Numismatic Guaranty Corporation has seen only a small fraction of all known high-grade talleros. However, it is not insignificant to note that of all talleros that NGC has graded, it appears that only two have reached the MS66 level; this and the previous lot. Not only that, but the next highest graded pieces only reach the MS64 level. This is a really stunning piece, and as far as comparable results of this type, we have been unable to find any for this Davenport number, though it would not be hard to believe that this is the finest known. Indeed, that very well may be the reason that Krause chose to highlight this coin on the cover of its Standard Catalog of World Coins, 1701-1800, 6th Edition. We expect that its final price realized will fully reflect the fact that this is a piece that lacks an equal.Ex.
