Yi Hyong white metal Pattern Warn Year 495 (1886) MS61 NGC, KM-Pn17. A fantastic white-metal example of this rare, crown-sized pattern that preceded the regular issue silver Warn struck in 1888. The surfaces are evenly-coated in a desirable smoky-gray tone and underlying luster sets the design elements aglow in champagne brilliance. Additionally, Mint-State definition across the illustrative deign motifs is easily identifiable, with particular attention drawn to the encircled dragon design, and other than light handling within the fields, this scarce specimen absolutely delights. In an effort to modernize their 200 year-old monetary system of cash coinage (cast coins featuring a square hole in the center) during the latter part of the 19th century, Korea employed the aid of Japanese mint officials to update their minting equipment in order to produce milled or machine-struck coins. During this time, fifteen trial strikes were created in various metal compositions and denominations. Of those, however, only three were adopted into regular circulation, one of those being the Warn which was the largest silver denomination created during this time and a coin that is rare in its own right.

Estimate: 12500-17500 USD
