Peru
Republic silver Proof Pattern Peso 1855 PR53 NGC, Philadelphia mint, KM-Pn12. Attractive for the assigned grade with slight high-point friction accounting for the designation and good surface quality with fewer than the expected contact marks. This very rare pattern marks the first attempts of the Peruvian republic to transition into the Decimal monetary standard and highly significant as such. It is similarly noteworthy as part of the first foreign coinage struck at any US mint and traditionally included in the Latin American crown series. About seven examples are known today, with most of them mishandled and/or impaired unlike the present coin – note that NGC's current census for the issue is of but two examples. A handsome, unflawed representative of this highly elusive and significant pattern coinage, very desirable in this engaging quality.
