August III Taler 1755-EDC MS66+ NGC, KM929.1, Dav-1617. Superb, amazing, stunning...one could go on with such adjectives. Very possibly the finest known for this type. The surfaces are clean, with a pleasing light gray tone and significant residual striking luster. Though not often seen in any sort of mint state, perhaps it would help the bidder to know that we have offered one other mint state example in our history. That coin, graded MS61, was sold in January 2010 for just under $5,000. However, the difference between an MS61 and an MS66+ can be astronomical, as is the case here. Nice talers in the AU58 to MS62 range are always highly desirable when they come to auction, but one has to recognize the fact that those types of coins are available on the market. What is not available, however, is Superb Gem talers. They simply do not survive in the sort of numbers to meet the demand. As such, this is an opportunity that should not be missed; it is unlikely if one will come across an example of this type in similar grade anytime in the near future.

Estimate: 22000-25000 USD
