Joao V gold 12800 Reis (Dobra) 1729-(L) MS61 NGC, Lisbon mint, KM222.6, Fr-84, Gomes-134.06. Without mintmark. Re-applied edge. Much scarcer than its Brazilian counterpart, this exceptional gold type features the intricately-styled portrait of Joao V with crowned arms in cartouche. Luminous surfaces absolutely delight with harvest-gold color that sets the design elements aglow in warm, original luster. Despite light handling in the way of minor wisps and marks--none of which are especially noteworthy on an individual level--the overall allure of this piece is incredibly engaging. A well-preserved example of this rare issue, highly-collectible at all levels, but especially coveted in this Mint State designation.
