Maria II silver Proof 400 Reis 1834 PR63 NGC, Lisbon mint, KM403.2 var, Gomes-16.02 var. An unique Proof specimen of this otherwise common issue featuring the crowned arms of Portugal and the Maltese cross. The fields are lightly toned and unmistakable glossy, expressing subtle moments of royal blue iridescence that cling to the design elements, while the obverse shield displays noticeably bold detail for the type, with particular attention directed towards the central motif. The rarity of this item is further confirmed as neither reference lists a Proof striking, and population reports indicate that this is currently the only certified example in a Proof designation. A highly-engaging selection, well deserving of much attention.
