Mikhail Feodorovich Novodel gold 4 Ducats ND (1613-45) MS64+ NGC, Fr-27, Reichel 4557, Kaim 1410, 28mm. Both the obverse, and reverse, have a crowned double-headed eagle, with St. George slaying a dragon in the center of the obverse, and what appears to be a Unicorn in the center of the reverse. The surfaces display a decided greenish-gold tint, with brilliant luster, bold definition and evidence of multiple strike. This is only the second example of this rare Novodel gold striking we have seen, the other being a lesser grade sold in our January 2009 New York sale. We can find no other sales and this piece is the finest of only two pieces certified by PCGS, with none certified by NGC.
Estimate: 12000-15000 USD
