Nicholas I silver - Plain Edge - Marriage "Rouble" 1841 Medal AU55 PCGS, St. Petersburg Mint, Bitkin-901 (R2), Diakov-563.3 (R2), 36mm. Obv. Conjoined busts of Grand Duke Alexander Nikolaevich and Princess Maria Alexandrovna facing left, signed H. Gube. Fecit. below. Rev. Crowned Shield with ciphers of the Grand Duke and Princess. Cupid and Psyche standing with crown between. C.П.Б. above exergue to left and initials H.Г. beneath ciphers. Variously called either a "Marriage Rouble," or a "Marriage Medal," in this plain edge variety, we will leave it up to the bidders to decide. Most of the major European auction houses list it as a Rouble. The strike is bold, with a touch of rubbing on the high points of this extremely high relief issue. The fields show some reflectivity and the surfaces display mottled russet patina.
