Republic Proof Shilling 1892 PR65 PCGS, KM5. With an estimated mintage of just 40 to 50 pieces. One of the top 3 graded examples of this type in proof. We have sold a number of PR63 over the last few years, but PR65's are hardly ever encountered. We have sold just one other that could be the equal of this piece, which was an NGC PR65 Cameo, sold in January 2012 for an amazing $12,650. While that was the peak of the market for South African coins, for a coin that is as rare as this, especially with the added allure of its nearly unrivaled condition, we would not be surprised to see a comparable result.
