George V Blackened Proof Farthing 1928 PR66 PCGS, KM12.2 (unlisted in proof), Hern-S7 (unlisted in proof). Apparently unlisted in the standard references in proof or specimen format. We have, however, been able to locate one other supposed proof example, which was sold in September, 2013 by Baldwin's as part of the Arielle Collection of British Colonial Coins. That coin appears to have been slightly lower grade than the current specimen, but still hammered at a more than respectable 3,000 GBP (just under $5,000 at the time). The coin on offer here has glossy brown surfaces with subtle blue iridescent hues. Considering the extreme rarity of this piece, we doubt you will ever encounter its true equal again. Krause catalog price(s) for this item: $3 in VF, $6 in EF, $15 in UNC.
Estimate: 6000-8000 USD
