Provisional Government gold Proof Medallic 5 Pesetas 1868 PR61 PCGS, Madrid mint, KM-XA1 var., Calbeto-549 var., Calico-Page 806. Truly superb, this immense gold medallic issue features Hispania resting on the Pyrenees with her feet at Gibraltar and the crowned arms of the Provisional Government flanked by pillars. According to Calico, this medallic 5 Pesetas was struck in copper, silver, and gold, and while several examples struck in the first two metals have been offered before, the latter are extremely rare in the marketplace. Additionally, at present time this is the only certified example struck in gold by either NGC or PCGS. An altogether enchanting rarity, sure to elicit strong interest within the collector community.
