Charles VII Pretender silver Piefort 5 Pesetas 1874 MS63 NGC, Brussels mint, KM-XPT4a, Calico-Type 1 var. 53.2gm. A highly-engaging Piefort of this Pretender issue, struck before the coronation of Alfonso XII that depicts the portrait of Charles VII--the Carlist claimant to the Spanish throne who maintained a court and government in exile. An altogether exciting piece displaying a base of silvery-gray tone accented by graphite color that clings to the devices and a pleasing amount of champagne luster that glazes the fields. Due to an exacting strike, the design elements on this example are fully-raised above their surroundings and closer inspection confirms pleasingly crisp edges. An intriguing selection with an interesting history, well-preserved and with excellent eye appeal.Ex. Huntington Collection

Estimate: 10000-12500 USD
