Basel. City Ducat ND (1750-80) MS66+ NGC, KM177, Fr-48a. A stunning and lustrous example of this rare type; very possibly the finest known. Indeed, a comprehensive search of auction records from the past 15 years does seem to confirm that this is finer than any of its peers which have appeared publicly on the market in terms of strike, condition, and surfaces. Some scattered die rust is noted under magnification, but we cannot count these die issues against the coin. An all around charming coin, and certainly fitting of the most discriminating world gold collector.
