ORDERS AND DECORATIONS, 勳章, Qing Dynasty清朝: Foochow Arsenal Gold Medal 褔州船政成功大清御賜金牌, ND (c.1874), Obv "大" and "清" at top separated by a pearl, "御賜金牌" at centre flanked by two facing dragons, Rev "褔州船政成功" flanked by clouds, all on a stippled field within scroll border, 51.8mm, 90.07g (Li Gongqing p.60). As made and very rare.

Made by the Imperial Palace Construction Section 造辦處 and presented to members of the European team led by French Navy officer Prosper Marc Giquel and his colleague Paul d'Aiguebelle upon completion of the Foochow Arsenal in Mawei 馬尾, Foochow 褔州 in 1874. The Arsenal was first proposed by Governor of Fukien and Chekiang Tso Tsung-Tang 閩浙總督左宗棠 and supervised by Minister of Naval Affairs Shen Pao-Chen 船政大臣沈葆楨
