CHINA. Sinkiang. Han-Kharosthi Bilingual Horse Coin, ND (ca. 250-350 A.D.).
17.42 gms. Xinjiang-60. Large module coin struck in the Yutian Kingdom which ruled what is now Hotan County. Inscribed with both Han Chinese and the Kharosthi languages. The coins were minted using techniques adapted from the eastern Greek and Persian empires. The layout and design of the coin is somewhat reminiscent of Indo-Skythian coins which had been struck a few hundred years prior and which in turn had been adapted from the coinages of earlier Greek kingdoms like Macedon and Paeonia.
