CHINA. Tientsin Tutung Yamen Silver Medal, 1902. NGC MS-61.
52.21 mm. L&M-994; cf.Li-pg 90. By J. Chevt and struck by TENSHODO. RARE silver medal struck by the seven member provisional military government which controlled Tientsin ca. 1900-02. The obverse records this provisional government with a legend in French around enamel flags of Germany, United States, France, United Kingdom, Italy, Japan and Russia with the dates of its existence below; Reverse: Two line inscription within wreath of oak and laurel. While it was struck in both silver and gold it is believed that the gold versions were only presented to the foreign dignitaries of the provisional government meaning this silver example would have been presented to either a local or lower ranking official. A very nicely preserved piece with deep old cabinet toning and all of the colored enamel intact and quite vibrant. NGC MS-61.

Estimate: $900.00- $1200.00
