CHINA. Hupeh. Hankow. Union Hospital Merit Silver Medal, ND (ca. 1866-1928).
55 x 59 mm. Presented to a female recipient of the London Missionary Society, the charitable organization which had founded the hospital in 1866. An interesting design on a planchet representing a pair of overlapping persimmons with two lines of characters and exquisite floral designs on each. Reverse with a hinged pin for wear as well as one large character : "Shoud" (Long life) within an ornamented border at the center. A smaller panel of 3 characters to the left, " Han Fu Tai" (The silversmith responsible). Shows some signs of repair on obverse. A red silk tassel is suspended from a loop at the bottom. VERY FINE.
