CHINA. 100 Yuan, 1982. NGC PROOF-65 ULTRA CAMEO.
EXTREMELY RARE. A little known brass pattern for the first 1 Ounce gold Panda issue. This pattern shares many of the same design elements as the medallic coins we know today, but with the denomination (100 Yuan) next to the seated Panda. When launching the Panda series in 1982, the China mint intended to produce bullion coins with denominations. It was later decided to remove the values in an attempt to follow the success of the South African Krugerrand. The pattern offered here displays the Temple of Heaven with the date below on the reverse, which very closely resembles the reverse adopted for the regular bullion production that same year. Lightly toned with highly reflective proof fields. A seldom offered pattern in superlative condition, and with significant relevance to the formative years of modern Chinese numismatics. NGC PROOF-65 ULTRA CAMEO.

Estimate: $75000.00- $100000.00
