TUDOR. Edward VI. 1547-1553. AR Shilling (31mm, 4.60 g, 8h). Second period; Base silver issue. Durham House mint; im: bow. Struck 1548-1550. Crowned and mantled bust right / Garnished coat-of-arms; E R across field. North 1924; SCBC 2472. Fine, toned, light scratches and cleaning marks.

Durham House was essentially the private mint of the king's uncle, Lord Protector, Edward Seymour, 1st Duke of Somerset, before he was toppled. When Somerset was sent to the Tower, the mint officials of Durham House were sent with him.
