Muhammad Ali was recognized by the Treaty of Paris as an independent ruler in 1763 and by the Mughal Emperor on 26 August 1765 (9 Rabi I AH1179). Earlier coins of Arkat, dated AH1120-1178, were Mughal issues issued under the authority of the appointed Nawab.
