ISLE DE FRANCE ET BONAPARTE: Napoleon I, as Emperor, 1804-1814, AR 10 livres, 1810, KM-1, Dav-37, Gad-14, Napoleonic eagle under imperial crown / laurel wreath encloses denomination, date below, Fine, RR. Issued by Charles Decaen, Governor General of Pondicherry and Isle de France (now Mauritius) et île Bonaparte (now Réunion) using silver ingots plundered from the Dutch ship Ouvidor by French corsair Pierre Bouvet of l'Entreprenant. Dies were cut by local engraver Aveline in 1810 and the coins are almost always weakly struck at the centers. Most of the issue was melted by the British after they captured the island later the same year.
