JIN: Xing Ding, 1217-1222, AR 5 cash (16.04g), H--, 34.4mm, cast in silver, VF to EF, ex Shèngbidébao Collection. A coin with such a legend is not listed in any modern catalog of Chinese coins, but such a coin is mentioned in Ding Fubao's encyclopaedia of cash, but not illustrated, from which it follows that a silver coin with the legend was released the end of the fourth year of the period of Xing Ding (1217-1222) during the reign of Emperor Hsuan-tsung (1213-1224) of the Jin dynasty. This date is equal to 1220 of the Western calendar. The text of the 'History of the Jin Dynasty' said that the order to cast silver coin was issued by the Governor General in the city of Zhennan. With a weight of 16.04g and diameter of 34.4mm, this example corresponds to the 5 cash bronze coins of similar time periods of the Jin Dynasty and the Southern Song. The general style of the coin recalls the style of the Southern Song Dynasty coins - compare this instance, for example, with a Shao Xing coin produced in the period 1131-1162. The casting is done very efficiently and the coin leaves a very favorable impression.

Estimate: 2,000- 3,000 USD
