ROMAN. Imperial. Lot of Twenty-two (22) Altered Roman Coins. Includes: A fascinating group of altered and modified Roman coins, with the alterations being done in antiquity. One coin is a bronze of Jovian, where the central portion of the coin was cut out, leaving an "annulet" containing only the obverse and reverse legends. Another coin appears to be a large Roman bronze, perhaps of the tetrarchic period, where the design had either been worn away by natural means, or had been smoothed down in antiquity. In either case, using a chisel or other sharp instrument, the owner crudely incised the obverse with a bust, and the reverse with a central design (trident?) and legend. Fair to Fine, all with some sort of ancient modification or alteration. LOT SOLD AS IS, NO RETURNS. Twenty-two (22) coins in lot.
