IRISH COINS, Charles I (1625-1649), Ormonde Money, Groat, small letters, small d on rev., 1.29g/1h (S 6548; DF –; KM. 58). Struck on a small flan with a small obverse die, unusual and probably extremely rare £600-800

---

This coin is the correct weight for a threepence and the diameter of the obverse wire-line border is 11mm, compared with 13mm for the other groats in the collection. Given these two facts, it is tempting to conclude this coin was actually intended to be a threepence but was struck using the wrong reverse die
