When the current vendor purchased mixed lots of James I Sixpences from the late Alfred Bole collection he became aware that Bole had noted on his tickets the differing combinations of stops by the obverse and reverse mintmarks. The practice seems most prevalent in the middle of the second coinage, c. 1607-15. Might this represent an additional system of privy marking? We have decided to note these varieties to assist anyone who may want to study this question further in the future
