Augustus (27 BC-AD 14), with Divus Julius Caesar (died 44 BC). AR denarius (19mm, 3.75 gm, 6h). Rome, by moneyer M. Sanquinius, 17 BC. AVGVSTVS – DIVI F, bare head of Augustus right / M SANQVI-NIVS III VIR·, laureate, youthful head of the deified and rejuvenated Julius Caesar right; above, comet with tail pointed upward. RIC 338. BMCRE 71. CBN 278. RSC 1. Very rare. Unobtrusive obverse banker's mark, minor deposits, otherwise attractive. NGC Choice VF 5/5 - 2/5, bankers mark. The laureate male head on the reverse little resembles lifetime coin portraits of Julius Caesar, but the presence of the "Julian comet" above his head leaves little doubt as to the identity of the portrait. As Augustus was celebrating the commencement of a "New Age" with the Saecular Games of 17 BC, it is likely the elder Caesar is shown as "rejuvenated" (literally "made young again") to mark the occasion.

Estimate: 1200-1600 USD
