Joao V gold 12800 Reis 1729/7-R XF45 NGC, Rio de Janeiro mint, KM140 (unlisted overdate), cf. Russo-195 (unlisted overdate). Clear 1729/7 overdate despite not identified as such in the insert. Wholesome and choice for the assigned grade with partial underlying luster, attractive old cabinet toning and devoid of any contact marks obtrusive to the eye-appeal. While both the 1728/7 and 1729/8 overdates are known for the type, this is only the second example of the 1729/7 variety that has come up to the cataloguer's attention (the other example being lot 3077 in UBS' auction of 1/2008). Missing in the Norweb, Eliasberg and RLM collections, obviously rare and worthy of a premium bid from the specialist of this popular series.
