Pedro II copper Pattern 200 Reis 1871 MS64 Brown NGC, Rio de Janeiro mint, KM-Pn147, Russo-EO80, Bentes-unl. Choice Mint State with strong amounts of red shining through despite the designation and fewer surface contact marks than expected for the assigned grade. A very rare pattern, for which the cataloguer has been able to locate a single previous offering for the past 30 years -the offering of this same coin as part of the famed Norweb collection - compared to three examples of the highly valued 50 Reis copper pattern of the same date. This handsomely preserved example is also the finest of the very few examined examples by the cataloguer and should be an important addition to the next owner's cabinet as such. Rare in any grade and particularly desirable in this fine quality. Ex. Norweb collection (Spink America 3/1997, lot 1188).
Estimate: 1200-1500 USD
