Republic nickel sliver Pattern 2 Cruzeiros 1941 MS65 NGC, Rio de Janeiro mint, KM-Pn337, Russo-E283, Bentes-E97.01. Gem Mint State with full mint luster and virtually unmarked surfaces, as expected for the assigned grade. A superb example of this rare pattern, in all probability the finest extant and very desirable as such. The cataloguer notes a lesser example graded About Uncirculated hammered for $800 in Stack's Bowers NYINC 2012 auction (Stack's Bowers and Ponterio 1/2012, lot 2103) while an MS62 specimen of the commoner copper-nickel variety hammered for $500 in our past Long Beach 2012 Signature auction (Heritage Auctions 9/2012, lot 23303). This impressive, in all probability unimprovable and finely pedigreed example, should realize a substantial premium over both. Ex. Norweb Collection (Spink America 3/1997, part of lot 1220)
Estimate: 800-1000 USD
