British West Indies
British Colonial West Indies gold Contemporary Imitation 6400 Reis 1756-R XF, An example of the contemporary imitations that plagued the West Indies in the 18th and early 19th centuries resulting in the myriad of regulated gold issues of those territories. The style is rather crude and the observed weight is quite low at 9.76 grams but the gold is of apparent good quality and the edge is nicely engrailed. A well preserved and charming representative of this scarce contemporary issue. The cataloguer notes a similar piece dated 1762-R with evidence of mount removal hammered for $1,350 in our CICF 2015 Signature Auction (Heritage Auctions 4/2015, lot 29444).
